Jan. 10th, 2007 @ 04:26 pm I'm pregnant!
Current Mood: calm
Ok, I'm not pregnant. That was stupid. But I do have to go get an ultrasound. I was sick with flu like symptoms a few weeks ago, so I went to the doctor. The nurse got my history and asked when was the last time I had blood work done for my kidney function. It has been a while, so we did it while I was there. They weren't happy with my numbers, so I had to do a 24 hour urinalysis. That turned out o.k. Emily talked to their nephrologists office and told them what was going on. They didn't like the way it sounded, so they want to see me. I have to go next week to have an ultrasound and another 24 hour urinalysis. The week after I will go to their office and have more blood work done. I don't feel too antsy about this, but still, you never know. Until then, I will drink lots and lots of water. It may be that I am just a little dehydrated. I will update again when they figure out whats going on.

So it's almost been a year. We are one week away from the year anniversary of the kidney transplant, and everyone is doing just great. I have talked to alot of people since then that either have donated, or are going to donate, and it's awesome to have this experience to share. We are going to Brian and Emily's tonight to celebrate Jade's 3rd birthday, and then next week we will go out to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Brian and I both only having one kidney.

I look at this every couple of days and say I am going to update, then I get sidetracked. Nothing new is happening really. I have been back to work since around Jan. 23rd or 24th..long enough to not remember the exact date. I am pretty much back to 100%...can't even tell I had any kind of surgery. Brian has been having a few problems, but not with the kidney. I need to call and get an update from him..another one of the many things I keep meaning to do and putting off. I will update again soon and get some info from him.

Current Mood: relieved
I had some lab work done today to re-check my creatinine. Today's was 1.3. Everything else looked good, too, according to Emily. I don't know about anything else. I guess I should learn what numbers mean what so I can know what to look for.

Current Mood: disappointed
I finally talked to UAB today and got my creatinine level from my one month check-up. It was 1.7, which isn't terrible, but I'm not happy about it. I am going to go have it checked again since it's been a month, and hope that it is back down to normal. I will update again when I find out.

Current Mood: good
Current Music: Sesame Street
I have been back to work for about 3 weeks now and everything is back to normal. I can't tell that I ever had any kind of surgery. Alot of changes at work has put me in business for myself, but basically doing the same thing I did before, just in a different location. I am in Hartselle now instead of Athens. So far it seems to be a good area, and I think I will enjoy it after I figure it all out. Brian is also back at work, but they still have him on the lifting limit of 20 pounds. I'm sure he is following that religiously. His numbers have all remained around the same place...I need to get an update from him as far as that goes. I never heard from the doctors about my numbers, so I assume they were good. I am going to call today while it's on my mind and see why they never sent them.

I finally got my tattoo last night. John, at The Ink Spot in Huntsville, Alabama, hooked me up. I am very happy with it..may get a couple of things added to it in a couple of weeks, like the date of the transplant. Not that I will ever forget it. Now everyone go give blood!

Jan. 17th, 2006 @ 04:46 pm More on Brian
I talked to Brian yesterday...good news on the lab reports. His creatinine has been anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 the last couple of times. 1.2 is considered "normal" so that is great news. He also said all of his other blood work looked really good. Everything is about the same with me...just sitting around getting fat, waiting on Monday so I can go back to work.

Not much. They were pleased with the progress. (yeah, I can hear Brandi saying, "WHAT progress???") I am getting around alot easier. I still have a little soreness, but it's getting better. I have been able to sleep a little better the last couple of days....especially the day I had to go to a meeting and the alarm clock went off at 5:45...I was sleeping real well that morning. I have about a week and a half before I go back to work, on the 23rd. Hopefully by then I will be more confident in my lifting. I am embarrassed to say I don't have an update on Brian today, other than "he's doing good." I will try to get a better update on that in a little while. UAB is supposed to be sending my lab results today with my creatinine level and other stuff, so when I get that I will update again.

Current Mood: happy
Brian and Emily are on their way home. His creatinine was 1.5 again today. Still not perfect, but still pretty good. I know getting home will make him feel alot better, and give him a little more energy. He will still have to do some lab work a couple of times a week, but he can do that locally. Hopefully everything will get back to normal for them now!

Jan. 1st, 2006 @ 03:58 pm Happy New Year
Current Mood: lazy
We are already through another year....hard to believe. I am still recovering very well. I have been able to pick Will up a little bit the last couple of days. More lifting him into the recliner with me than actually picking him up, but still better than it was. Brian is still doing well, also. His creatinine continues to hang in the 1.5 to 1.7 range. If his numbers stay good, he may get to come home as early as Wednesday or Thursday this next week. About a week early. Hopefully the new year will treat him well and everything will continue to work like it's supposed to. I still can not say enough about how nice everyone has been through all of this. The food, the books, the prayers, and everything else...thank you all so much!

Current Mood: grateful
I got out on my own for a little while today. I walked through the mall, went to Barnes & Noble...was nice to be out. I am feeling alot more normal now. I can put on a pair of jeans and not worry so much about my incision site. I got an awesome book for Christmas called "The Traveler's Gift" by Andy Andrews...finished it in 2 days. I am now awaiting a shipment of more of his books I ordered. Highly recommend that one. I received a book in the mail today (thanks bluedog!) called "Why Do Men Have Nipples?" I haven't started it yet, but with a title like that, how can it be bad? I don't go back to the doctor until January 10th, so I still have lots of downtime before going back to work. It has been really nice not having to do anything. The biggest downfall to all of this is not being able to pick up Will. That will come soon enough though! Thanks again for all of the kind words, cards, and other stuff that has been sent to me. You have no idea how much it is all appreciated!

I am still doing good. Yesterday was a very lazy, tired day. Brian is still doing well, also. His creatinine fluctuates between 1.5 and 1.6. We would like to see it get around 1.2, but 1.5 is still pretty good.

Current Mood: tired
Yeah, I got in trouble today. Someone called and complained. Just because I know I feel o.k. doesn't mean everyone else does! Sorry!

I have been getting along just fine. Still some soreness, but other than that I am doing very well. People are trying to fatten me up for some reason. Every time I turn around there is food coming through the door! It is all very much appreciated though!
Brian is doing very well, also. I got a call from Emily today, and his creatinine is 1.5! I love hearing those low numbers. She had dropped him off at the townhouse so he could get some much needed rest. They pretty much put him through the ringer with tests today. They won't be as bad tomorrow, but he does have to be at the hospital every morning for labs at 6:30 a.m.
I did get out of the house for a couple of hours today with my brother, Brian. We made at trip to Huntsville and went to the book store and Best Buy. It was nice getting out, but wow it took alot more out of me than I thought it would.

I won't wait so long between updates next time!

Dec. 16th, 2005 @ 11:50 am I am home
I deleted a few of the last posts because after seeing here, they didn't make sense. I wasn't that drugged up! Everything has gone very well. Brian's creatinine was at 10.1 the night before the transplant. When I left today, it was 1.6. It had not been below 4 since he found out he was sick April 2004. He is moving into the townhouse at UAB tomorrow and will continue to do great. I have had soooo much of an easier time with this than I ever imagined. Don't get me wrong, there was pain involved, but not as bad as I had expectations at. The nurses were awesome. We had our favorites, of course, but all in all it was a great experience. The whole coughing/burping thing hurts pretty bad. I am trying the pillow trick, but it doesn't help that much. After seeing how much better Brian is getting, and after going through this whole process, I know now more than ever I did the right thing. It is worth every little tinge of pain I have to see the relief on his face. I don't know what else to say right now...I am going to try to catch up on everything I have missed this week.

Tomorrow is the day. We are leaving here at 7:00 a.m. heading to Birmingham. I honestly have no clue what will do all day tomorrow. We do the final crossmatch around 9:00 a.m. After that it's anyones guess as to what they will do with us. I will update this as much as I can from my phone. We are taking the laptop...don't know if they will have wireless internet or now, but we are taking DVD's to watch. It will get used one way or another. Until later...keep the thoughts and prayers going!
